Sustainability

We all want to do our best for the environment. So how can you make your stay in Auckland just that little bit easier on the planet?

Mt Eden

Auckland is a great place to live, work and visit and we’re keen to make sure it stays that way for future generations to enjoy.  We’re taking steps to improve the environmental impact that we have on our city and we encourage you to do the same during your stay.

Here are some simple actions to consider while you’re in Auckland:

  • See the city like a local. Walk, cycle or take public transport – there are loads of options in Auckland - visit maxx.co.nz to find out more.
  • Consider your energy use. Turn off lights when they’re not needed and try not to overcharge cameras, iPods and mobile phones. Once they’re charged they’re good to go.
  • Fresh water is the world’s most precious resource.  Have short showers, use the toilet’s half flush or refill your water bottle. Auckland’s water is clean and fine to drink straight from the tap.
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle. Look out for conveniently located recycling bins at i-SITE Visitor Centres, your accommodation and in public places.
  • Take your own bag to go shopping. There are plenty of great re-usable bags to choose from and some places charge for bags, so you’ll save money too.
  • Enjoy New Zealand grown fresh produce, food and drinks. Auckland has several great Farmers’ Markets that sell delicious local food, plus the region has multiple vineyards that sell excellent wine.
