What we do

ATEED is the economic growth agency for the Auckland region and is one of six Auckland Council-controlled organisations (CCOs).  ATEED is tasked with driving innovation and  transforming the local economy, so that Auckland is a desirable place to visit, live, work, play, invest and do business.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) began operating in November 2010 when the Auckland Council structure was established following the amalgamation of the previous regional council and seven city and district councils in the Auckland region.

The economic powerhouse of New Zealand, Auckland has a population of 1.5 million and contributes 35 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Auckland’s population is expected to grow by another one million people by 2040, providing a stimulus for further economic expansion and opportunities in the region.

Auckland was ranked the third most liveable city in the world in the Mercer Quality of Living Survey in 2016, the fifth year in a row it has held this position. The Mercer survey ranks 223 cities and analyses 39 factors important for expatriates.

ATEED supports the growth of a vibrant and competitive economy by facilitating new (investment) money and new jobs for Auckland. ATEED is committed to being transparent, accessible and easy to do business with.

ATEED operates in the tourism market (both domestic and international); major events that increase the profile of Auckland and contribute to the local GDP; and has identified investment opportunities in growth business sectors. These sectors include:
