Agility CIS Limited the Supreme Business Excellence Award winners at the Westpac Auckland Business Awards 2014 – Central

Last night utility billing solutions provider Agility CIS Limited captured the Supreme Business Excellence Award at the Westpac Auckland Business Awards 2014 – Central after winning the Excellence in Exporting award earlier in the evening.

“There’s a very good reason we call ourselves Agility,” explains CEO Mike Thorne. “We are up against some big players in the world that are much bigger than us, so we need to have a point of difference.” In a classic David and Goliath, he explains that larger competitor systems are mostly pre-packaged solutions. Agility’s software is far more responsive and customized to individual client needs. “We create a system that adapts to what the customer wants, not where the customer must adapt to the system!”

Since its inception in an Auckland garage in 1998, Agility CIS Limited has grown to where it know licenses a complete proprietary customer information system, Orion, worldwide to utility companies in New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Middle East and Tonga.

Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO Michael Barnett congratulates Agility CIS Limited and all the Central Auckland awards category winners who represent the diversity of Auckland’s economy in size, management style and innovative business strategies.

“Like so many kiwi entrepreneurial businesses, Agility CIS Limited started in a garage and has grown exponentially as a result of the founder’s ingenuity and the adaptability of the business to the changing marketplace – in this case deregulation of the electricity market. Innovation, particularly in the IT sector, is a real point of difference for New Zealand businesses,” says Barnett

“We look forward to seeing more of what these businesses – particularly the standout businesses identified by our judges – have to offer to the wider Auckland business community in the near future as they innovate, grow and prosper.“

Auckland Council’s economic growth agency – Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) – partners the Chamber to present the Awards.

Auckland Councillor Cameron Brewer says: “We are proud to support the awards and congratulate last night’s winners. It is fantastic to see the growing level of excellence and innovation being shown by companies in the Central area.

“Through ATEED, Auckland Council is committed to working with growth companies and our partners to drive economic transformation in the central city. Our wide-ranging projects such as GridAKL – Auckland’s fantastic new innovation precinct at Wynyard Quarter – and the Youth Employment Traction Hub will help to create high-tech jobs and grow the skilled workforce Auckland needs.

“Auckland Council is excited about Auckland’s economic future. Through our economic development strategy, Auckland Council is playing a proactive role in ensuring the region successfully lifts its productivity, export earnings and economic growth,” says Cameron Brewer.

Simon Power, Westpac GM Business Banking, Private Wealth and Insurance says: “A huge congratulations to the Supreme and Business Excellence category winners at the Westpac Auckland Business Awards 2014 – Central

“Westpac is extremely proud to be associated with a programme that recognises the outstanding achievements of businesses across New Zealand, including the Central Auckland region.

“We wish the 2014 award winners all the very best for their future business endeavours and, if history is anything to go by, we’re sure they will continue to excel.”

The Central Gala Dinner and awards ceremony was a glittering occasion held at The Langham Auckland attended by more than 400 guests.
