Auckland’s aspirations to be a hub for innovation in the Asia Pacific region have transformed the old to the new, with the launch of Hacktivate Battleships.
New Zealand’s coding masterminds headed along to Spark Lab in Auckland on 25 July 2015 to take part in the latest Hacktivate event, competing against each other in a game of virtual battleships.
The 18 developers formed six teams who, during the day, wrote algorithms to use to compete against each other in the evening tournament.
The event was Hacktivate’s sixth tournament and marked the launch of ‘Battleships - The Online Asia-Pacific Hackathon’, scheduled for October 2015.
The evening kicked off with a keynote speech from Brett O'Riley, ATEED CE.
“The great thing about this event is that it speaks not just to the city that we’ve been, but that it speaks to the city that we want to be,” said O’Riley.
“We want to be one of the most innovative cities in the world. We want to have tech jobs and a tech industry that’s just pumping, that has big salaries, so that our best and brightest people… will want to stay.”
