If you have a little time

Blow out your cobwebs with a spin around Waitemata Harbour on a jet boat. If you’re feeling really brave you can climb up or bungy jump off Auckland Harbour Bridge. Head up the Sky Tower to try New Zealand’s highest controlled base jump, or walk around the narrow exterior platform 192 metres above the ground.

Want to visit some of Auckland’s leading vineyards but don’t have the time? Take a unique virtual tour where you can taste wines while enjoying fly-over views of the vineyards and meet the winemakers.

Need an urban fix? Explore the boutique shops, designer stores, hip bars, eclectic restaurants and buzzing cafés the vibrant Britomart precinct and along High Street in the heart of Auckland.. Sit back with a glass of wine alongside superyachts moored in Viaduct Harbour, or stroll along to the restaurants in the revitalised Wynyard Quarter heritage waterfront area a minute’s walk away.

If you’ve got a bit of time

Discover the stars above at Stardome Observatory and Planetarium, or visit Auckland Museum, renowned for its unique collection of Māori and Pacific treasures. You can even take in a Māori cultural performance.

Hit the water aboard a former America’s Cup racing yacht and feel the thrill of high speed sailing at its best. For something a bit more laid-back, head out into the Hauraki Gulf for dolphin and whale watching – a truly memorable experience.

If you appreciate fine foods, take a guided food tour through Ponsonby, one of Auckland’s historical villages known for its sophisticated cafés, restaurants and boutiques. Be treated to gourmet delights, served with a splash of history. Take in 19th Century wooden buildings, browse the arts and crafts and visit boutique shops.

If you’ve got plenty of time

Head across to beautiful Waiheke Island and join a wine, food or sightseeing tour with local guides who share stories of island life and point out hidden treasures.

Sample award-winning wines at boutique vineyards, taste delicious local olive oils and produce, see superb local artwork and take in the stunning scenery while you learn about the island. Stop for a gourmet lunch at one of the island’s top vineyard restaurants or at a beachside village café. Finish the day with a leisurely stroll along the white sands of Oneroa Beach.

Nature lovers should take a trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island open wildlife sanctuary, one of the world’s most successful volunteer conservation projects and home to some of New Zealand’s most endangered species. Explore or take a guided tour to learn about the flora and fauna, surrounded by birdsong and unspoilt landscapes.

There are countless adventures waiting beyond the city fringe

Join a guided eco-tour to experience Waitakere Ranges’ pristine native forests and the rugged west coast, renowned for its wild black-sand surf beaches.

Or head north to discover the Matakana wine region’s stunning combination of coast and country. Visit the outdoor sculpture park and local art houses, taste local delights including gourmet cheeses, fresh seafood, honey and artisan chocolates, and enjoy tastings along the wine trail.
