The 15-minute scenic journey east along Tamaki Drive to Mission Bay makes this the most accessible urban beach from downtown Auckland.

When you’re not busy eating - throw around a frisbee or play a game of beach cricket or volleyball. The walkway is always a hive of activity with walkers, joggers, cyclists and people skating by on roller-blades. A visit to Mission Bay isn’t complete unless you’ve got your toes wet. Take a dip in the sea; hire a kayak or wind-surf on a blustery day.
It’s easy to see why this area is so popular with the sparkling Waitemata Harbour and Rangitoto Island on the horizon.
Nearby next to the Ngāti Whatua papakainga – Orakei Marae find Michael Savage Memorial which remembers the first Labour Prime Minister of Auckland. With a lovely garden and panoramic views of the Waitemata Harbour, it’s the ideal spot to enjoy a delicious picnic.
