Denis O'Connor - SIP, Wine and Waiheke Social History

Major New Zealand artist Denis O'Connor often weaves a commitment to local history into his practice. this installation 'Songs of The Gulf' was acquired by Auckland Art Gallery and the artist has made a suite of works referencing Waiheke's Gulf News covers.

Winner of numerous awards including the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship at Otago University and Headlands Sculpture on the Gulf, O'Connor is also the subject of two documentary films. He exhibits at Two Rooms, Auckland.

Frequently working with the text and image 'SIP' has the artist creating imaginative ensembles of signs and narratives that acknowledge local history - and also create it. This collection of curious and compelling works on slate was made especially for this Tivoli exhibition.

Exhibition opens Sunday 4th December, 5pm.
