North Head

The history of North Head dates back to 1150 AD according to Maori lore. In the 1870’s, early New Zealand settlers occupied North Head and set up a military defense site to protect the Auckland harbour from the possibility of a Russian invasion.

Explore the tunnels of North Head, and discover the disappearing guns, searchlights emplacements and other military defence structures. The history of North Head is not the only attraction; stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf are also a highly appealing aspect of North Head.

To reach North Head from Devonport, follow King Edward Parade along the water front and follow the signs to North Head. The reserve is open from 6am to 10pm seven days a week.
