Long Bay Coastal Walk - Auckland activities - things to do in Auckland

Long Bay Coastal Walk

Long Bay Coastal Walk begins at the southern end of Long Bay Regional Park - a marine reserve surrounded by dense coastal bush with views over the golden sand beach to Rangitoto Island.

The trail passes the Vaughan Homestead, a fully-restored farmhouse of the early New Zealand era with a small museum inside. The track then passes through coastal bush before coming across a side track that takes walkers to the site of World War II gun emplacements. The track continues along the coast towards Granny's Bay, with a lookout on the way, before passing Pohutukawa Bay and arriving at Okura River.

The Long Bay Coastal Walk takes approximately three hours return, and is located about 45 minutes from Auckland's CBD. Access to the beginning of Long Bay Coastal Walk is via Carlsle Road (follow the signs from Torbay).

Park hours: 6am - 9pm.
