Tokelau

Village Coordinators – Nemia Tanu and Fialo Akeimo

What are your village’s music highlights?

There are so many artists to choose from, including Vaniah and his sister Jewel Toloa, Hanry Levao, Tony Solomona, the EFKT Youth, PIPC Youth and more.

What are some must see activities?

You will be amazed by the way Tokelauans prepare and cook their food.  You will also be entertained by watching the carvers and weavers showcase their talent.

What’s a ‘must-try’ dish?

I highly recommend the fekei dish. I won’t say any more but come along and taste it for yourself!

What’s a little-known fact about your country or Pasifika village?

Tokelau is the first country in the world to use renewable energy.

What else can you tell us about the village?

We will be teaching simple Tokelauan words and phrases. This reflects the importance to our Tokelau community of preserving and cherishing our heritage language.

When did you join Pasifika?

Nemia Tanu has been the Coordinator for over five years and Fiaola Akeimo is taking on this role for the first time this year – so welcome aboard Fiaola.

What does the community think about Pasifika?

It is a good place to see a variety of customs and culture and a place to meet with families and friends who have been lost for so long. It’s a Pasifika unity sphere.

Any last words?

All I can say is come and see for yourself – the Tokelau village speaks for itself.
