Filming in our communities

Auckland is an exceptionally beautiful and cosmopolitan Asia-Pacific city with diverse landscapes and a friendly ambience, making it a magnet for local and international screen productions.

Our growing economy includes a flourishing screen industry.  We have many domestic and international projects filmed city-wide throughout the year, including television series, feature films and commercials.

Screen Auckland works with production companies to help them make the most of Auckland’s world-class locations and spectacular scenery. We work with productions filming in public places to minimise their impact on neighbourhoods and business districts. We ask for film-makers’ commitment to respect the neighbourhoods and environments they film in.

Screen Auckland is a team within Auckland Council’s economic growth agency Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and is responsible for issuing film permits for the region’s public places on behalf of council. We’re also responsible for ensuring productions meet the terms of their permit and will follow up to ensure this happens.

If you have a concern or query about filming taking place in your neighbourhood, please contact Auckland Council’s 24-hour call centre on 09 301 0101.
