The New Zealand Government’s improved incentive programmes for screen production took effect in 2014 – making the country even more competitive for international projects. The streamlined criteria makes it easier for you to apply.

The New Zealand Screen Production Grant (NZSPG) encourages medium to large-budget productions, both New Zealand and international, to film in New Zealand.

The incentives programme is administered by the New Zealand Film Commission.

International productions

The NZSPG for international productions is a competitive and exciting incentive designed to attract foreign and domestic large budget films, television and other format productions to New Zealand.

The International Grant includes a Post, Digital and Visual Effects Grant scheme.

International productions can access a cash grant of 20 per cent of Qualifying New Zealand Production Expenditure (QNZPE). It may be possible for your production to increase this to 25 per cent if you can demonstrate significant economic benefits to New Zealand.

Our Screen Auckland team can help you understand and successfully complete your application.

New Zealand productions

The strand for New Zealand productions covers official co-productions between New Zealand producers and partners in countries with which New Zealand has treaties. This cash grant can be up to 40 per cent on New Zealand qualifying spend.
