Opened in 2004, Alfriston College is a modern and welcoming learning environment. We can provide you with a culturally rich and truly authentic New Zealand educational experience.
Our international students can enjoy:
Innovative Academic Programme
At Alfriston College we offer a full co-curricular programme, including a highly successful Outdoor Education programme and four different International Languages. We have a challenging curriculum that offers a wide range of courses to suit all students. Lessons often involve co-operative learning tasks, meaning that students work closely with each other to solve problems, invent and create.
Sport is a central part of school and whanau (house) life. We offer a wide range of sports, both male and female, from Volleyball and Hockey to Football and racquet sports. We have extensive fields, a purpose built gym with fitness suite and 2 beach volleyball courts.
Cultural groups take part in Polyfest every year, a celebration of the Maori, Pacific and international communities that make up Auckland. Competition is tough and it is an amazing few days. There are extra-curricular clubs in Dance, Drama, Art, Music and many more area for you to enjoy. We also have our own whare (a traditional Maori meeting house) onsite.
As a new school, we have excellent facilities. Beach volleyball courts, a dance studio, a student run cafe and adjustable learning spaces (we can move walls to make classrooms bigger or smaller!) are just some of the great design features. All classes have access to computers in the room and the library is spacious and well equipped. For our senior students, the Independent Learning Centre offers a space to study. All the whanau blocks have microwaves for students to use with spaces to sit, chat and make friends.
Whanau is a Maori word, it means family and it is what we call our houses at Alfriston. All students, including international students, belong to a house (whanau) Positive relationships are at the heart of our community. Your whanau will become like a family at school, a place to make friends, represent your whanau in sport and get involved in community tasks.
We run our own comprehensive homestay service at Alfriston College. The majority of our Homestay families live in The Gardens, just a short walk to the College and a ‘stones throw’ from the beautify Botanical Gardens. With our Homestay co-ordinator available 24 hours a day and by carefully selecting families for you to stay with, we are sure your stay will be happy and comfortable. Living with a kiwi family means that you will get to really know New Zealand and practise your English!
Located south of Auckland, Alfriston College can offer the best of city and country living. Auckland City is a short drive or train ride from Manurewa, on the edge of country fields where it is easy to join a riding club; we are also close to beaches and hills.
