A co-educational government secondary school that is committed to providing an innovative, individualised and connected learning environment. Personal success for you is our goal.
International students are very welcome at Green Bay High School because you help to bring the world into our school. You bring a cultural diversity that helps us to grow our understanding and tolerance of different cultures to our own. You also help us to value the learning of languages beyond English. We in turn offer you an opportunity to learn about our culture, to make life long friends, to learn or perfect your English language competency and to further your academic achievements. We will provide ESL classes should you require them and we will place you in a caring, warm home stay close to our school.
Green Bay High School is a co-educational government secondary school of 1250 students aged 13 – 18. The school opened in 1973 and is proud of its modern facilities including the most recent opening of the performing arts centre in 2011. The school is set in a peaceful garden environment at the entrance to the Waitakere Ranges rainforest bordered by harbour and coastal beaches. The school is 20 minutes from the Central Auckland Sky Tower, 25 minutes from Auckland International Airport and 30 minutes from world famous surf beaches.
Excellence is expected of students, both in studies, behaviour and civil responsibilities. The school management team, teaching staff and Board of Trustees are united in their belief that the main purpose of the school is teaching, learning and the achievement of high standards by its students.
Green Bay High School is a ‘restorative practice’ school where opportunities to develop self-discipline and positive behaviours in a caring and supportive environment is provided.
The school respects the students as individuals by building on their strengths and supporting them in overcoming their weaknesses. A strong sense of personal responsibility for their learning is instilled in each student. The school has a well established academic counselling programme where each student is given individual interviews with a teacher each term, to help them to stay focussed on academic goals and to make appropriate course choices.
At years 11, 12 and 13 students take courses that lead to NCEA qualifications that open the way for further international academic studies or vocational training. The school offers courses that are aligned with AUT, UNITEC and Auckland University, where some tertiary credits can be gained while attending secondary school.
Extra curricular activities play a large part in the lives of students at Green Bay High School. Becoming involved in a sports team or a cultural activity is a wonderful way to meet other students in a less formal environment than in the classroom. The school has over 40 sports teams from; rugby, soccer and netball to golf, and surfing. Cultural clubs range from Rock and Jazz bands, Drama/Dance productions to Amnesty International and Environmental Action Groups.
A positive school climate, in which students feel connected, is the best environment for learning. This is Green Bay High School from where academically successful, socially conscious students graduate to positive futures.
