More Information

We provide a caring, hard working, secure and attractive environment, situated on the fringe of Manukau harbour, Auckland’s first international port.
Onehunga High is the first government secondary school to open a purpose built Business School in New Zealand.  The Business School specialises in business-based courses at Years 9-13 and is hugely sought after by students.

The school also gave rise to the first Building and Construction School in New Zealand.  Fletcher Construction Ltd supports our Building and Construction School and this initiative has helped many students with apprenticeships and employment through the construction sector.

Students are prepared for all New Zealand examinations, assessments and for tertiary education.  Subjects are taught at all levels of the New Zealand curriculum. The ESOL Department provides English Language classes at all levels and curriculum support is provided in all core subjects.  Onehunga High School promotes excellence in academic achievement and offers a large range of scholarships for further tertiary study.

Classroom facilities include a performing arts suite (dance, drama and music rooms), art and design rooms (photographic studio), computer and science laboratories, technical workshops, catering and hospitality facilities (including a full commercial kitchen).  The school also has a library, cafeteria, cricket oval, football field, hockey turf, astro tennis courts, mountain bike track, gymnasium and fitness room.

Onehunga High School has a school population of 1400 students and 150 staff.  Annually we have approximately 45 international students from around 12 different countries.

We provide our own homestay service with a full time co-ordinator employed by the school.  Accommodation is with families close to school and includes a fully furnished room, all meals and laundry.

Pastoral care is provided by the Dean of International Students, Homestay Co-ordinator, Guidance Counsellors, Careers Advisor and school nurse.
