This world-class institution is the largest school in New Zealand with over 3000 students and is perhaps the most internationally acclaimed New Zealand school.
Around 8% of the school is made up of international students from over 30 different countries. Both international and domestic students benefit from the diversity and the cultural learning helps prepare students for life in the global economy.
Rangitoto College offers both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the New Zealand curriculum (NCEA). Both are modern qualifications which fit well with our core values and encourage students to develop critical thinking skills that will benefit them greatly at university and beyond.
Our best students regularly gain ‘top scholar’ awards and scholarships to prestigious universities. Rangitoto College is the largest provider of students to Auckland University and our qualifications make it possible for students to be accepted into some of the world’s best universities, including Cambridge and Oxford in the UK, and Princeton in the USA.
Rangitoto’s success is the result of expert teaching in a wide range of academic subjects and an extensive extra–curricular programme including music, dance, drama and over 40 different sports. Our Rugby Programme for International Students offers students the chance to quickly develop their skills and excel in New Zealand’s favourite sport.
Leadership skills and teamwork are skills highly valued by universities and potential employers so our students are encouraged to participate in activities which help them explore their talents, learn negotiation and organisational skills, and gain confidence.
Rangitoto College has been hosting international students for over 15 years and we have developed excellent systems to help students adapt to life in a new country. Our students stay in carefully chosen homestays near the school.
Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is provided by homestay families. A dedicated team of eight non-teaching staff, two academic deans and a deputy principal takes care of our international students and we meet students regularly to check they are doing well academically and personally. We have first language support for Korean and Chinese students.
