School design and special features

Botany Downs Secondary College is situated in the Eastern suburbs of Auckland, 40 minutes from the City Centre and 30 minutes
from the Auckland International Airport. Our modern design provides flexible learning spaces.  Computer pods form the hub of each area
and the 575 Café is an internet hot spot where Hospitality students serve coffee, hot chocolate and food to aid the sharing and the learning. 

We have 1850 students in Years 9 – 13 (ages 13-18 ) Each student belongs to one of 6 Whanau (houses), which is their home within the school, where they are part of an extended family of teachers and students, and where they have a locker, kitchen facilities, computers, photocopier and somewhere
to relax and socialise with other students. 

There is a large shopping mall opposite the school.

Curriculum
BDSC offers exciting subject choices and an opportunity to achieve in the national NCEA examinations.
Over 80% of all those who do Year 12 and 13 go on to Tertiary studies.

Language (ESOL) Support is given at all levels including reception English for beginners.

Extra-curricular activities
Many after-school activities are available, including musical,theatrical, cultural and sporting activities.

Student support
A team of staff led by the International Students Manager oversees
the welfare and academic progress of all International Students.
