Long Bay College is a co-educational secondary state school with 1650 boys and girls. The College offers high quality academic programmes, exciting sporting and performing arts opportunities and a modern campus with world class facilities. Students can choose from a wide range of subjects and our teachers are highly trained and contribute a creative spirit to the wider school life with flair and passion. Academically, our students achieve above average results and we have students studying at university level as part of our accelerate programme. International students who study at Long Bay College go on to study at university either in New Zealand or overseas.
Long Bay College is located in a beautiful setting on Auckland’s north shore with good transport links to the Auckland city centre and Auckland International airport (45 minutes drive). The school has spacious grounds and is close to Long Bay regional park and beach. Facilities include: modern classrooms with the latest technology, music suite, new library with study areas, purpose built Science block with laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Purpose built Technology block with specialist facilities for Cooking and Culinary subjects, Art, Fabric and Fashion, Woodwork and Automotive Engineering. Sports facilities include: indoor fitness centre with rock climbing wall, dance studio, tennis courts, sports fields for cricket, football and rugby.
After School Clubs and Activities
Students at Long Bay College enjoy a wide range of opportunities to participate in after school clubs and activities. International students can join sports teams and clubs throughout the year. Long Bay College enjoys a reputation for excellence in the performing arts and international students are able to participate in a wide range of activities including Dance, Drama, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Music productions. International students often participate in one of the College’s many shows and performances.
Long Bay College has an experienced team of staff in the International Department who look after students’ pastoral and academic needs. An extensive Orientation Programme introduces international students to the College’s ‘way of life’ and helps students to settle into school life and make friends very quickly. An academic International Dean helps students with their subject choices and timetabling issues and also provides an interface between teachers and students.
Homestay Family Accommodation
International students live with a local home stay family. All the families are carefully chosen and monitored by the Homestay Co-ordinator. Students have their own room in a large home which is usually within walking distance of the school and one of the local beaches.
The New Zealand academic year runs from early February to December and is divided into four terms. International Students at Long Bay College can start in February, April, July and October.
