A year like no other is calling for Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau. In 2021, the region will host a year-long programme of world-class events, bookended by the 36th America’s Cup and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2021 Leaders' Week in November.
2021 will be one of Auckland and New Zealand’s most significant years yet as hosts of major global events. In addition to the 36th America's Cup and several key APEC 2021 events, Auckland will host te Matatini, the biggest Māori cultural festival in our history, Rugby World Cup 2021, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup and several other events - from vibrant festivals to sporting spectaculars.
With tens of thousands of visitors coming from across New Zealand and the globe, 2021 will be an opportunity to showcase our city and country on the global stage, celebrating all that makes Auckland and New Zealand unique, and sharing our stories with the world.
Excitement is building as we gear up for 2021 with detailed planning for a year of excitement and activations. These events have set a deadline for some of the projects planned for the city, including the development of world-class waterfront and facilities for the 36th America’s Cup and beyond.
