GDP

Auckland’s food and beverage sector contributed 4 per cent ($3.3 billion) to Auckland’s regional GDP in the 2015/16 financial year. Of this, food and beverage processing and manufacturing accounted for approximately 65 per cent of the total GDP in the sector, while about 35 per cent was in food and beverage wholesaling.

 

 

Labour force

Auckland has over half of New Zealand’s labour force for food and beverage manufacturing and wholesaling. On average, businesses in the food and beverage sector employ more people than an average business in New Zealand. In 2015, our food and beverage sector employed 10.7 staff per business, compared with the 4.4 employee average of our total economy.
