Think Talk: Saving the Planet at 400km/hour

Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

Eva Hakansson will take you on a high-speed adventure at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats. She readily admits that her 400+ km/h, red, sexy, bullet-shaped electric motorcycle “KillaJoule” is really just “eco-activism in disguise”.

Did we mention that she built it in her backyard shed, in her spare time? With the same dedication as a Greenpeace activist, she uses the unusual channel of high speed racing to open people’s eyes and minds for sustainable technology. Meet a modern version of famous kiwi racer Burt Munro.

About Dr Eva Hakansson
Eva Hakansson became the fastest woman motorcycle rider on Earth at 434 km/h, on an electric motorcycle she built herself. Next on the horizon? The overall motorcycle record! A new 1000 HP battery-powered motorcycle is already taking shape in her garage.

A Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland, Eva wants to see more passionate people of any and every shape, size and circumstance fall in love with science and technology. Her daily job is moulding 1000+ young minds in engineering design.

Please register for this talk so we can plan seating for the expected numbers. A $5 donation on arrival at the door is appreciated but not compulsory.
