Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.
This course will run Monday 23 January 2017 to Thursday 26 January 2017 from 9am to 2:30pm each day. The course is taught by Selwyn College, English Head of Department, Lucy Jansen.
This course is designed for Year 12 and 13 students who did not attain their NCEA Level 2 Literacy credits in the previous academic year and wish to catch up. Online applications for this course close on Monday 16 January 2017. Please telephone the office 5219623 to express interest after this time. The maximum number of students for this course is 10.
The course will focus on both Reading and Writing Achievement Standards. The actual Standards offered will depend on the individual needs of the students.
Prior to commencement, the course tutor will contact students to:
- Discuss their needs and study intentions.
- Review their NZQA transcripts to define appropriate Standards and assessments (please ensure your transcript is available).
- Determine that each student is a suitable candidate.
Due to the intensity of the programme, this course may not be suitable for students with English as a second language.
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to attain Level 2 Literacy.
Specifically, you will be able to:
- Write a formal letter
- Write a discursive essay
- Read and respond to texts
In addition to class hours, students should allow time for additional study/homework each day.
It is essential to enrol for this class; places are limited to ensure the teacher can give sufficient attention to each student.
