About
Since 2002, the Auckland Diwali Festival has grown to be a hugely popular, free, family friendly event.
Diwali - The Festival of Lights
The Auckland Diwali Festival takes its inspiration from Diwali or Deepavali (row of lamps), an important and ancient Indian festival celebrated throughout India and in Indian communities around the world. Colloquially known as ‘The Festival of Lights’, Diwali signifies the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and the renewal of life.
Behind the Auckland Diwali Festival
The Auckland Diwali Festival is produced by the region's cultural and economic agency, Auckland Unlimited, on behalf of Auckland Council. Asia New Zealand Foundation is a founding partner of the festival. The Diwali Advisory Group, representative of Auckland’s Indian communities, supports and advises on the future development and growth of the festival.
