A variety of fun events are taking place in Auckland this New Year's Eve. To ensure the safety of party goers, families and visitors on the night, some roads in the city centre will be closed between 10pm and 2am.

Check out all the details below!

What's On?

SkyCity will host Auckland's biggest New Year's Eve street party on Federal Street, and a lounge party in Sammy's Lounge. Check out their What's On page for more detail.

Britomart Block Party will take place on Galway Street and three local night clubs.

Silo Park will have family-friendly, alcohol-free celebrations. There will be a stage with live music and performances. Food trucks, music and performances will also return to Karanga Plaza this year. All activities will kick off at 5pm and go until 12:15am.

How to travel in and out of the city centre

We strongly urge everyone to take public transport in on the night, and make the most of the additional services in place. Please visit the Auckland Transport NYE webpage to plan your journey in advance.

Please note that diversions and detours will be in place because of the road closures mentioned above.

  • For those who are travelling in via ferry, please remember that the Quay Street roadworks will impact walking paths from the ferry terminal. Pedestrian access is available on Lower Hobson Street, Lower Albert Street and Queen Street.
  • For those who are travelling into Britomart and heading to the Viaduct Harbour and/or Wynyard Quarter, we recommend you walk via Customs Street East to avoid the roadworks on Quay Street.

Cars

Please note that you will not be able to access or leave parks within the road closure zone between 10pm and 2am. However, Auckland Transport car parking lots will be open 24 hours and there are several car parking lots outside of the road closure zone, and plenty of on-street parking.

If you are being dropped off and your NYE destination is on a road that will be closed, we recommend you head to the following roads: Wyndham Street, Hobson Street, Wellesley Street West, and Shortland Street.

Biking

If you want to bike into the city centre on New Year’s Eve, plan where you will park your bike in advance by using Auckland Transport’s cycle parking map.

Accessible advice

If your New Year's Eve destination is on a road that is closed, we recommend heading in before 10pm to be dropped off right on the doorstep; and to be picked up from the doorstep, we suggest enjoying the night until 2am at the earliest, when the roads will reopen and your ride can stop outside.

Between 10pm and 2am, the recommended drop off and pick up locations include Wellesley Street West, Hobson Street, Wyndham Street and Shortland Street, which are all a close distance to the bars and restaurants located in the road closure zone. We suggest using Google Maps to determine which road is closest to your destination. With the roads free from cars, you will have more freedom to move about safely.

Accessible options on public transport will remain the same on New Year's Eve.
