For the past three years, algorithm-based aggregator of food guides and reviews, La Liste, has calculated the top 1,000 restaurants in the world using a programme that scores and ranks them.

This year, eight Auckland restaurants have made the list:
•    Sid at The French Cafe (90.5)
•    Sidart (83.75)
•    The Grove (83.25)
•    Kazuya (81.75)
•    Cocoro (81.50)
•    Clooney (80.5)
•    Pasture (80.25)
•    Don Alfonso at Helena Bay (80.00)

Don Alfonso at Helena Bay is a particularly unique listing, as it only serves guests of the luxury resort.

The algorithm used to form La Liste’s top 1,000 absorbs data from more than 600 national food guides, judgements from recognised critics and ratings from leading online review sites. All the information is then converted into a grade between 0-100 (at 0.25 intervals).

It is this unique process that allows the list to claim that Sid at The French Cafe, for example, is a better restaurant than the infamous Fat Duck in Melbourne (90.25) - a three-Michelin starred restaurant by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.

Forming a food tourism strategy in Auckland is an integral aspect of the Destination AKL 2025 strategy, so it is exciting that Auckland can boast dining experiences that can rival famous restaurants around the world. La Liste has shown that Auckland is a world-class food destination.
