For the past two months, Metro magazine’s judging panel of twelve had the delicious task of eating their way across Auckland.
Their aim: to whittle a list of 100 contenders down to the top 50 finalists of the Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year 2019.
The restaurants are now in contention for the Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year Awards, to be announced at the prestigious awards night at Auckland’s historic Town Hall on 29 April.
An inspiring trend to come out of this year’s Top 50 is the rise of female chefs at Auckland’s best restaurants, with four women in the eight finalists in the Best Chef category, which will be announced at the ceremony.
"We're excited to see women leading some of the best restaurants in the city," Metro editor Henry Oliver said.
Telling New Zealand’s food story is one of the strategic imperatives to come out of our Destination AKL 2025 strategy, which aims to improve Auckland’s visitor economy; so celebrating the incredible range of eateries in Auckland is always a welcome pastime.
