NUKU Live is a full day event, taking place at Mangere’s Makaurau Marae in the culturally and historically rich papakainga of Ihumātao.
The workshop programme has a strong connection to te ao Māori, tangata whenua and tangata moana using poetry, dance, song, craft. Guests will enjoy inspiring workshops and speakers which share, celebrate and bask in the collective wisdom of indigenous women. NUKU Live is a celebration of culture, identity, and femininity. The event will include locally-sourced kai, celebrating regional flavours.
NUKU is a multimedia creative and social impact storytelling project profiling 100 bold and talented indigenous women doing things differently, across Aotearoa. NUKU’s vision is all about creating a powerful movement with the ability to transform thinking, transfer knowledge across generations and, uncover layers to cultural identity. The word NUKU is derived from our atua, Papatūānuku, the ultimate female essence. It grounds our kaupapa connecting women to each other, to the elements, and to the world around us.
NUKU invites wahine to look at the world through a different lens, a personal lens, a cultural lens, a lens made by and made for indigenous women – mā hine, mō hine, kia hine!
