Seeking business events that drive visitation to Auckland and strengthen Auckland’s reputation in key sector industries.

Auckland Convention Bureau (ACB) is seeking new business events*, business events that drive out-of-region visitation, business events that align to Auckland’s key economic sectors, and those looking to establish an in-person event hub in Auckland, with the aim of connecting delegates virtually into business events based outside of New Zealand.

The Auckland Business Events Fund is for business events looking to take place between 1 April 2022 and 30 June 2024.

We invite you to review the Auckland Business Events Fund Guidelines and contact the ACB  team by emailing to schedule a pre-application conversation to understand more about funding support for business events meeting the programmes objectives and eligibility.

Funded by the Regional Events Fund tourism recovery package governed by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the Auckland Business Events Fund allows for contestable funding rounds that will be used to focus on securing new business events and developing existing business events for Auckland.  The attraction of these business events will ensure economic benefit to the region is maximised, supporting Auckland’s unique identity and strengthening Auckland’s reputation in key sector industries and as a global business events destination.

Auckland Unlimited has established three key programmes through which Regional Events Funds are distributed.  See the links below for detailed descriptions of the programmes and eligibility criteria.

*Business events supported through applications to the Auckland Business Events Fund may include conferences, conventions, symposiums, congresses, meetings, incentive travel programmes, business to business tradeshows and exhibitions.

More information about the REF:

The Auckland Business Events Fund will have three application windows each year during which you can apply for funding support for activity that meets the respective programme objectives.

The Auckland Business Events Fund is part of the Government’s $50 million Regional Events Fund (REF) which aims to stimulate domestic tourism by supporting existing events to continue to operate or supporting new events to form. It is designed to stimulate travel between regions through holding events, supporting the tourism and events sector, and helping to replace some of the spend lost from international tourists due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, visit the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment website (MBIE).

The Auckland Business Events Fund, available through REF support, allows for contestable funding rounds that will be used to focus on developing, securing and/or enhancing new and existing business events for Auckland that ensure economic benefit to the region is maximised and the region’s assets and venues are optimised, whilst also encouraging out-of-region visitation.

Applications will be assessed based on economic, social and sustainability criteria, with weighting towards the economic benefit that business events bring, replacing the loss of international visitation and assisting to create opportunities for exposure of Auckland’s key sector industries and industry advocates – aided by the procurement of confirmed business events that help to grow Auckland’s profile both nationally and internationally.
