Auckland has maintained its standing as the world’s third most liveable city, behind Vienna and Zurich and ahead of Munich and Vancouver. Ranked against 229 cities in the world, Auckland was in the top three of the Mercer Quality of Living Index for the fifth year running.
Mercer said in its 2017 report that "Auckland nearly tops the list again with its well-balanced economy, idyllic environment and high levels of personal safety”.
