The latest world-class additions to Auckland’s newest screen production site and complex, Kumeu Film Studios, are rapidly taking shape with construction of the two new sound stages nearing completion. They are due to open in the coming months. Along with the state-of-the-art covered dive tank, outdoor ocean pool, and giant green screen, the sound stages will be a big boost to Auckland’s screen infrastructure and global proposition.

The new stages are being funded by the private land owner, and ATEED has taken out a long-term lease on the site, which was developed thanks to a unique partnership between the owner, ATEED, the New Zealand Film Commission, and the international studios Warner Bros. and Gravity Pictures.

The studios used Kumeu for their feature film The Meg (due out in August), and it has since been used for the Netflix’ series Monkey. It is now gearing up for a major Hollywood production to move in for most of the year.

This recently created time lapse video shows the construction of the new sound stages.
