Stall applications now open for 2018 Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival.

The size of the crowds at this year’s Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival means there is an opportunity to expand the footprint of the 2018 event to allow more hapu to showcase the essence of Tāmaki Makaurau.

The methods and ideology of preparing food, and the sharing of stories behind the region’s crafts and culture, are all unique to the event.

More than 30,000 people attended last summer’s event, double the inaugural 2016 festival’s attendance.

This free and family-friendly festival showcases the unique Māori history, heritage and contemporary culture of Tāmaki Makaurau. It features performances by contemporary Māori artists and top kapa haka groups, workshops and talks, Māori crafts and kai, traditional games, healing and tā moko, and an on-water programme of waka experiences, and sailing.

People who produce an amazing hangi or mussel fritter, unforgettable creamed paua with fried bread, beautifully woven kete, artfully crafted taonga, or any other kind of Māori food or art, are welcome to apply for a stall at next year’s event.

Applications can be made online here.

The deadline for completed stallholder applications is 7 December 2017.

The Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival is delivered by Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development (ATEED), on behalf of Auckland Council, in partnership with the mana whenua of Tāmaki Makaurau.
