Welcome Dr Helen Evans, the newest member of the Auckland Advocate Alliance!
She joins the group of 50 leaders in their field who support Auckland Convention Bureau to win conferences for the city that create a positive impact for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Dr Helen Evans is Head of Department & Consultant Paediatric Hepatologist Gastroenterologist at Starship Child Health.
An expert in the field of intestinal failure and transplant in Australasia, Dr Evans championed the creation of the National Intestinal Failure and Rehabilitation Service in New Zealand, which opened in 2015 here in Auckland. The service is the first of its kind in the world treating newborns, children and adults with intestinal failure and rehabilitation throughout the country.
Dr Evans’ reputation in this field was instrumental in helping Auckland win the right to host the hybrid Congress of the Intestinal Rehabilitation and Transplant Association 2021 (CIRTA).
The congress showcased Auckland’s existing expertise in this field, while extending our city’s knowledge, networks and collaboration opportunities in the management of these rare diseases.
Dr Evans is now working with Auckland Convention Bureau to bid for an international transplantation congress.
She says: “Intestinal failure is complex and challenging to treat and these congresses bring together experts to share knowledge that will leave lasting legacies for patient care.”
Evans joins other specialists in their field - from robotics to education, cybersecurity to environmental science - who have worked with Auckland Convention Bureau to bid for business events that make a positive impact on Auckland and beyond.
