Dena Jacob am of Māori decent and grew up in Tauranga Moana.
On my mother’s side I am from Matakana Island and on my father’s side I am from Matapihi. Mauri Ora.
How long have you been a VC for Pasifika Festival?
I think its 4 years on my own and possibly 7 years when assisting the past VC for the village.

What inspires you to be involved in Pasifika Festival as a village co-ordinator?
Doing the right thing for our Maaori Whanau ( Tangata Whenua and Mataawaka) Celebrating our unique
identity and remembering where we have come from. Our Tupuna are wise! We must not forget the
traditions of our people.
What do you love about Pasifika Festival / what are you passionate about?
Sharing our culture and its evolution. Celebrating our Rangatahi , Arts and Kai and being able to
engage with our Pasifika cousins over a great weekend !
What is your vision for your village at Pasifika?
To grow our Village numbers and promote the many amazing Maori communities doing amazing
things locally and internationally.
