Voucher Programme Information for Businesses

The $9 million Explore Tāmaki Makaurau Voucher Programme will fund vouchers to encourage individuals and families to visit Auckland attractions, activities and facilities this summer.

There will be 100,000 vouchers allocated to Aucklanders that can be used to cover or contribute towards the value of attraction and activity deals on Bookme.co.nz – 70,000 x $100 family vouchers and 30,000 x $50 individual vouchers.

From 15 December 2021, Auckland residents will be able to register their interest to receive a voucher. Vouchers will be allocated in a phased approach from 15 January 2022. Recipients will have 14 days from the date they receive the voucher to activate the promotional code and until 30 April 2022 to enjoy the experience or activity of their choice.

 

Is my business eligible to participate?

Auckland-based visitor attraction and activity operators can be part of this programme by offering deals via Bookme. Aucklanders that receive a voucher, can use it to cover or contribute toward the price of deals listed on Bookme.

To participate in the Explore Tāmaki Makaurau Voucher Programme, an activity and attraction operator must

i. be an established activity and attraction operator in the Auckland region*(see definition of boundary)

ii. be COVID Safe (Read more on the requirements here)

iii. have registered their interest with Bookme before 24 December 2021

iiii. meet the below criteria:

Inclusions:

• Tourism attractions within Auckland, such as established activities and experiences at places of interest and paid visitor experiences.

• Tours that operate within the Auckland boundary, such as art tours, guided walking or hiking tours, wine and bike tours.

• Food tours offered must be from exiting tourism operators and not include dining packages

• Community facilities such as museums and art galleries

• Commercial pools and water based attractions

• Transport that includes a tourism experience. For example, touring including water transfers to islands, scenic flights, bus and coach tours and tourism experience that includes a transfer.

• Guided or self-guided visitor experiences such as biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, jet ski operators

• A tourism operator that owns a hospitality component may include a food and drink component

• A tourism experience where the hospitality component is considered a ‘tourism’ experience and it is integral to the offering.

• Cultural tourism experiences, i.e. exhibitions, performances

• Tickets to events that have not received other government support directed at events (e.g. Local Activation Programme, MCH funding, Events Transition Support Payment etc).

• Activities such as escape rooms, ten pin bowling, laser tag, trampoline parks, paint ball, mini putt

Exclusions:

• All accommodation

• Hospitality - restaurants, bars, cafes, food trucks, markets

• Dining vouchers or packages, where dining is the lead experience

• Rentals/hire including cars, campervans, commuter bike and scooter hire, boat and leisure craft hire, where the tourism experience is not the lead.

• Independent transport that is not part of a tour. For example, airport transfer, shuttle bus and public transport.

• Gift shops and shopping outlets

• Gift vouchers

• Annual Passes and memberships

• Information services and destination information

• No beauty or health services – nail salons, massage businesses, saunas and spas

• No gyms or fitness classes, such as yoga, dance, pilates, swimming classes

• Movie tickets

• Gaming Arcades

• Community pools (council owned)

• “Learn to” classes such as swimming, art, pottery, floristry classes

How to register your business with Bookme

If you are an Auckland attraction and activity operator and meet the eligibility criteria, please register your interest with Bookme.co.nz by 24 December. Registration is free.

Explore Tāmaki Makaurau details for businesses

• Keep in mind the value of the vouchers – $50 for individuals and $100 for families.

• Deals offered must be for experiences that take place before 30 April 2022.

• Keeping the value proposition simple and easy for consumers to understand is best. Bookme enables multiple different discount levels on any given product.

• You may also like to consider that on the Bookme website, deals are listed and can be searched by “popularity”, by the “best deal” (level of discount offered), or by a map. Deals will be displayed according to this listing system.

• If your business is a visitor attraction and activity business in Auckland and meets the eligibility criteria, please register your interest with Bookme before 24 December.

If you are already registered with Bookme, please update your business information and products/deals in line with the voucher programme. Please liaise with your Bookme key contact on this.

If you are not yet registered with Bookme, Bookme operates a self on-boarding process and also provides one-on-one support.

• Yes. If you are not yet registered with Bookme, it is free to list and the Bookme team will be available to get business listings and deals loaded or refreshed by mid-January.

• Specifically, for operators to use the Bookme site, they will need:

i. A modern web browser, a smart phone, computer or laptop.

ii. To be able to login to Bookme's online platform.

iii. To be able to receive email bookings.

• In addition, Bookme does integrate with the following channel management systems.

i. Whytewater RTBS

ii. Fareharbor

iii. Rezdy

• Operators with the above systems can apply for an inventory connection and Bookme will work with the operator directly. Please let Bookme know when registering if you are using one of these platforms and would like to connect via an API.

• We have partnered with Bookme for this programme.

• For operators to use the Bookme site, they will need:

i. A modern web browser, a smart phone, computer or laptop.

ii. To be able to login to Bookme's online platform.

iii. To be able to receive email bookings.

• It is not required, but Bookme can also integrate with the following platforms.

i. Whytewater RTBS

ii. Fareharbor

iii. Rezdy

• Operators with the above systems can apply for an inventory connection and Bookme will work through requests on a Bookme priority basis.

• There will be no commission on the voucher value*, but there will be commission on any value over and above the commission. Commission rates are negotiated directly between the operator and Bookme.

• For example, a package of $150 that uses a $100 family voucher, the operator will only incur commission on $50.

• * Commission on voucher value will be issued back as a manual rebate at the end of the campaign to ensure operators receive the full value of the voucher component commission free. Bookme's systems are automated so a commission will initially be charged with the monthly billing.

• Deals cannot be restricted to only those with vouchers. Therefore, deals on Bookme will also be available for direct bookings by public (all New Zealanders).

• Commission will apply to these ‘direct bookings’. Commission rates are negotiated between you and Bookme directly.

• Yes, deals can be updated during the campaign to allow businesses to actively manage their bookings and capacity and remove deals if their capacity is met.

• We will be encouraging voucher recipients to book deals quickly to avoid missing out.

• Operators are asked to submit one product listing, on which deals apply for adult, child or family rates.

• Some exceptions may apply based on the operator type ie a business that has multiple activity options – please liaise with Bookme directly.

• Vouchers can be applied against a deal that is less than the voucher value.

• In this scenario, the voucher user would be issued a new voucher for the remaining amount, and this remaining value can be applied to another activity or attraction within the original 14-day timeframe.

• All rules remain the same for the redemption of the new voucher.

• Yes. All participating businesses and consumers of the `Explore Tāmaki Makaurau this Summer‘ voucher programme must adhere to the COVID-19 vaccination certificate guidelines.

• All events and activities must adhere to the relevant health restrictions in operation at the time, and require COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

General Explore Tamaki Makaurau programme FAQs

• Both programmes aim to encourage families and whānau to visit Auckland attractions, facilities and cultural venues this summer.

• The ‘Voucher Programme’ is a programme that will fund 100,000 vouchers that will be randomly allocated to Aucklanders following a registration process. Voucher holders can choose from a range of attraction offerings on the Bookme website. Vouchers will be used to cover or contribute towards deals on Bookme from eligible attractions and activities across Auckland.

• The 'Discount Programme’ is a programme to provide discounted or free access to Auckland-based attractions, activities and facilities for Auckland residents.

i. We are currently developing the criteria around this programme, including how it will be delivered or integrated with other summer programmes and initiatives.

ii. Further information about the Discount Programme will be available from 15 December.

• The Reactivate Tāmaki Makaurau Support Package will encourage Aucklanders to get out and about in Auckland this summer, encouraging Aucklanders and visitors back to attractions and events across the region.

• A significant marketing campaign will be driving Aucklanders and domestic visitors to Auckland over the summer period. This campaign will promote hospitality and accommodation offerings, check out Auckland is Calling.

Auckland Unlimited will be undertaking a marketing campaign to drive registrations to reach Aucklanders.

We will target a broad Auckland audience to ensure we get strong registrations from across the Auckland region. In our advertising we will showcase some attractions and activities, both commercial and council owned, however we will not be able to showcase every participating business.

Participating businesses will all be profiled on the Bookme platform and this is where we are directing our advertising.

• The voucher programme is open to all visitor attractions and activities, both commercial and council.

• All eligible operators (see eligibility criteria) can list deals on Bookme as part of the programme, and Auckland residents choose where they use their voucher.

• The consumer ultimately decides who they will book with.
