New Zealand is famous for its awe-inspiring landscapes, unique Māori culture and of course, hobbits.

Few people would add a thriving tech sector to that list. That's because a lot of the amazing work that Kiwis are doing on the global tech stage flies under the radar.

Auckland-based tech company Invenco is the perfect example of this.

"When you realise what we do, you actually realise how many petrol stations we're in across New Zealand, it's the majority of them,” comments Rebecca McKaskell, People & Capability Manager at Invenco.

Invenco designs and develops world-class self-service payment solutions, including outdoor payment terminals, electronic payment servers, payment switches and cloud services.

It dominates the New Zealand market and is now focussing largely on global markets, including the huge US market where it's achieving outstanding results.

The company's growth has meant it's constantly in need of exceptional tech talent.

"We're always on the lookout for really good candidates with firmware or hardware experience,” Rebecca adds. "Obviously the NZ tech sector is booming, so there's a limited amount of candidates in New Zealand. And we're accredited, so we can help with people's visas.”

Invenco's growth and success has been recognised with numerous awards. Its 370% growth over three years earned it a 16th place on the Deloitte Fast50 rankings and its 428% growth over five years placed it fifth in the Master of Growth Index.

Invenco's success is no surprise.

One of the people behind the company is Kiwi tech legend Sir Peter Maire. Sir Peter was the founder of New Zealand's largest privately owned tech company, Navman, and owned a 90% stake in Fusion Electronics, which was sold to US tech giant Garmin in 2015.

Today, Invenco has offices in Auckland, the US, the UK, Canada and Malaysia.

It employs over 220 people, with 176 based in Invenco's Auckland headquarters, located just minutes away from the North Shore's stunning beaches.

Rebecca feels that the lifestyle on offer in Auckland is a huge sell for international candidates. Auckland offers the best of worlds - an enviable lifestyle and a career to match.

"The key for people coming from overseas is the great lifestyle that we have in Auckland. It's still got that city vibe, but then it's got a really good balance for you to raise your family and for the kids to be going to really good schools as well.”

But Rebecca also stresses that candidates shouldn't feel as though they have to compromise their professional development.

"There's a lot happening in Auckland right now – there are some really great tech companies out there, so I think that you can move for the lifestyle and your family, but you can still continue your career and keep developing.”

Rebecca adds "The culture here (at Invenco) is really down to earth – very open, there's a lot of social events like BBQs happening all the time. It is a relaxed environment”.

Invenco offers a great balance – producing excellence on a global scale while enjoying the culture and lifestyle that Auckland has to offer.

It really is the best of both worlds.
