Pukekohe is the largest town in the Franklin district and it is a popular shopping destination with a diverse range of specialty shops. It is situated about 45 minutes from the centre of Auckland City. Pukekohe is also known for its car race track. There are many attractions and facilities available in the area, such as libraries, recreational centres, swimming pools, golf courses, sports grounds, beaches, cafes and restaurants.Local attractions include the Saturday morning market, golf, horse treks, a water-garden and west coast beaches. At nearby Glenbrook, rail enthusiasts operate historic steam trains for Sunday rides.

Pukekohe Intermediate is rather unique in being one of the few semi-rural intermediates in New Zealand.

The school is well resourced for information technology with computers and the internet featuring strongly in the school’s curriculum programmes. Digital tools available include interactive whiteboards, pods of computers and cameras, ipads and ipods. There are tvs in all classrooms, through which there is a daily broadcast from the student run PINT TV.

There is also a large and sunny library housing over 5000 books.

The school has a number of purpose built specialist classrooms including digital classrooms, food technology, hard materials and arts’ rooms.

Students will follow the New Zealand curriculum and essential learning areas in Literacy, Numeracy, Science, PE and Health, Social Studies, the Arts and Technology. Students are encouraged to become involved in extra activities including choir, orchestra, music lessons, music festivals, productions and dance.

Pukekohe Intermediate School has around 640 students in Years 7 and 8. (Aged 11-13)
The school policy is to have no more than 20 international students enrolled full time. This is to ensure we can guarantee top quality home stay accommodation and a specialised English Language Programme.
