Duder Regional Park is a must-see for families, photographers and hikers, if only for the pōhutukawa -fringed Whakakaiwhara Peninsula from which this area gets its name. In the 14th century, the Tainui waka (canoe) landed on these shores for refuge after a storm. The crew that moored and dined on the peninsula’s fruit are the ancestors of Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki iwi.
