The Little Gallery’s original branch in Tairua is a major participant in the Mercury Bay Art Escape held annually in March. This popular tour enables art enthusiasts to meet artists and visit open studios and exhibitions across the Coromandel Peninsula.
Especially for The Little Gallery’s Auckland audience, an Artist Demonstration Evening will be hosted at their Victoria Park Market branch.
This event will bring together a number of Auckland-based Little Gallery artists, including Vjekoslav Nemesh, Kirsty Black, and Gary Brooks, to participate in an evening of live painting and art-making.
This will give the public the opportunity to observe the processes behind the diverse range of art practices supported by the gallery, and experience a deeper level of engagement with the artistic process in an 'open studio' setting. The demonstration aims to bridge the sometimes mystifying gap between the finished artwork, and the ideas and techniques that led to its creation. Our artists welcome any questions you might have for them!
Serbian-born artist Vjekoslav Nemesh has had a longstanding painting practice. Using predominantly oils, Nemesh paints in a powerful, vibrant abstract style that often appears digitally rendered - a nod to a childhood love for science fiction. Nemesh also creates beautiful hand-painted glassware.
Kirsty Black is an abstract painter living in Maraetai. Auckland. Her practice is concerned with investigating how the intangible and immaterial can be conveyed visually through formal painting elements like colour, form and composition. Her distinctive style bounces between the geological and the playful - rock formations may allude to colourful rough-cut gems or gumdrops.
Gary Brooks has been painting and making artwork for over 15 years, exhibiting around New Zealand. His current work is based around experimenting with concrete and creating orb-like forms that he is now well-recognised for.
We would love for you to join us for a wine and see our talented artists at work! All are welcome.
