Auckland Council cordially invites you to a service at Auckland War Memorial Museum to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.
This battle in northern France lasted 141 days, it was the bloodiest battle of the First World War with over four million troops involved and one million casualties. New Zealand Division joined the offensive in mid-September with 15,000 men, suffering 6000 casualties and 2000 deaths.
A ceremony of remembrance will be held in the WW1 Sanctuary, level 2, of the Museum on the centenary of New Zealand's entry to the battle: 15 September.
