Held on the last Sunday of the month in the Grey Lynn RSC car park on Francis Street, the Car Boot Market is a place for everyone in the community who would like to sell, swap or give away things they no longer need. The market is for second-hand items only - no new stuff. We think there is already enough stuff on our planet! Our aim is for people to reuse items. To move them on to somebody else who can make good use of them.
The Car Boot Market is a great local alternative to running your own garage sale, no advertising necessary (we take care of that), no strangers descending on your home and no need for the hassles with Trade Me. You can sell from a table, your car boot or from the ground, you can even put up a gazebo if it looks like rain. Trailers, cars, utes, vans and are all welcome. Most people though like to unpack and move their car to give them more space to show off their items.
Grey Lynn RSC:
A big shout out to the Grey Lynn RSC for the generous use of the car park for our Car Boot Sale. By the way, the RSC is a great place for an easy meal or a place to meet casually with friends. Grey Lynn 2030 holds community meetings upstairs at the RSC and always find the staff to be helpful and accommodating.
Stallholders must not arrive before 6:30am as a respect to the local residents and be ready to go by 8am. You can pre-book online (no refunds) or take your chance on the day.
If you book online, we will email you our bank account details and payment must be made by the Friday before the market. On the day it is a first come first served basis. You can check in with us on Friday before the market to see if we have any sites left. You will need to bring $20 cash on the day.
At the market, look for Suzanne or Don in a flouro vest and you will be given a place to park. You will be shown where you can park. The market closes at 11:30am and all stallholders must vacate the car park by then. The market rarely cancels – and when the weather is iffy it is up to you to make a call if you want to show up.
This is a zero waste event, please remove your rubbish and take away what you have not sold. The proceeds support Grey Lynn 2030 initiatives. We are currently working towards a Resource Recovery Centre for central Auckland.
