2021 will be a vibrant year of events and activity designed to increase visitation and event participation throughout Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. The Auckland is Calling campaign will link events and activities in the lead up to, and throughout 2021.
Starting with the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada and Summernova festival, the Auckland is Calling campaign will showcase and unite events and activities, encouraging Aucklanders and domestic travellers to safely get out and experience what our region has to offer.
The creative idea for the Auckland is Calling campaign, is drawn from the concept of the Tomokanga. For centuries, arches have been used around the world as gateways, symbolising a passage to the other side. In Aotearoa New Zealand, we have our own traditional Māori gateway – a Tomokanga - an entrance to a significant site, that represents the stories of the area.
The Tomokanga design was created for this campaign by artist Katz Maihi and it represents our call to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
