Imagine being in rural New Zealand with no contact from the outside world when you are suddenly confronted by global capitalism.
This quirky scene plays out in Becoming Jeff Bezos by actor and playwright Alex Medland (Kāi Tahu).
Alex has been a member of both Auckland Theatre Company’s Youth Company and Writer’s Table, and she currently produces new work with her Edinburgh-based company Half Trick Theatre. Besides her Playmarket award for Becoming Jeff Bezos, she is the winner of the 2025 Adam NZ Play Award — the youngest in its 18-year history — for We’re Gonna Kill Billy.

Q Theatre is a 2-minute walk from Aotea Square and a 16-minute walk from Britomart Train Station. Being on Queen Street, there are many buses that stop right outside the theatre. If driving, you’ll find the closest option at The Civic Car Park.
