Heart of The City Auckland, in partnership with Auckland Council and Vector, have installed LED lights for trees along Queen St from Customs Street to Victoria Street (including Vulcan Lane).
The lights will transition between a variety of colours and can be programmed for special occasions like Diwali and Christmas. They can also link in with other feature lighting in the city, such as Vector Lights on the Auckland Harbour Bridge and Sky Tower lights.
The upgrade plays an important role in bettering the visitor experience on Queen Street, adding to the night-time buzz that is already in existence. It will also complement new development going on in the city centre, such as luxury hotels, Commercial Bay and the City Rail Link – projects that will attract more people to the area during the evening hours.
Improving Auckland’s night time economy is a significant element of our Destination AKL 2025 strategy, and Queen Street’s glowing trees are an innovative way to increase footfall at night.
