Academy Award-winning design and effects company Weta Workshop is set to open an exciting new attraction in Auckland.

Located within a new entertainment precinct being created at SKYCITY Auckland, the Weta Workshop experience is expected to be an immersive journey that will complement the behind-the-scenes tours at their Miramar headquarters in Wellington.

To keep things uniquely Kiwi, the attraction will neighbour another iconic New Zealand brand, the All Blacks, who will also launch a state-of-the-art interactive tourism experience in SKYCITY’s new entertainment precinct, in partnership with Ngai Tahu Tourism. Both will open in early 2020.

SKYCITY Auckland is already a powerhouse for entertainment in the region, boasting the unmissable Sky Tower, a casino, theatre, great bars and restaurants, so adding the new entertainment precinct to their offering is a testament to their commitment to remain a leader of the industry; it will also assist in boosting Auckland’s visitor economy, which is significant to ATEED’s Destination AKL 2025 strategy.

A key deliverable within Destination AKL is product development – particularly products that have a distinct New Zealand narrative. As more international visitors to New Zealand spend time in Auckland compared to Wellington, it is hugely exciting that more people will now have the opportunity to experience one of New Zealand’s greatest success stories in the film industry.
