Explore Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland with eight free self-guided hīkoi (walks) showcasing art, design and architecture and celebrating Māori identity.
The eight walks, each mapped on the website ArtNow.NZ, showcase sixty sites comprising private and public art, urban and architectural design, and sites of significance. They celebrate Māori identity, history, knowledge, and contemporary presence.
These artworks help to reveal Māori histories, cultural perspectives and concerns that lie underneath the modern façade of the city. They offer insights into the rich indigenous culture, Māori values, knowledge, and ways of being.
The Auckland Central walks are self-guided which means you can do them any time, at your own pace. Just click on the link, choose the trail that suits you best, then follow the map and soak up the city’s powerful heritage.
