HPYD is a series of conferences on high performance yacht design organised by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) NZ and the University of Auckland. The first conference was held in December 2002. Since then it has showcased the latest developments in yacht research from around the globe. The conference enables naval architects, engineers, designers, and researchers to present and hear papers on the current state of high-performance yacht and power craft technology.
The event includes a series of technical sessions and a free session open to the public (registration required). This year public session will showcase a presentation about the design of the AC40 by Emirates Team New Zealand, a presentation about IMOCAs and Olympic sailing venue investigation, featuring the best of the 2024 sailing world. A round table about the evolution of foiling technology will conclude the public session. So if you want to discover the technological marvels behind the high performance sailing world, here is your chance to learn from, interact and discuss with top designers and engineers.
Technical sessions over this two-days edition incorporate 20 technical papers covering various topics like aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, structural design and analysis, computational methods, wind tunnel or towing tank testing, wind assisted ships and more!
