They say space is the final frontier but what does that mean in relation to Aotearoa? And how do we contribute to it?
Launch your imagination these school holidays and find out exactly how and why our country plays a part within space exploration and technology with Tūhura Tuarangi - Aotearoa in space.
This exciting showcase created by Tūhura Otago Museum offers a hands-on, minds-on experience for the whole whānau.
From virtual reality, to hydrogen propelled ping pong balls, outer space has never felt so close!Start your journey at the Aviation Hall and discover an array of interactive and creative activations for kids of all ages. explore the relationship Aotearoa has with outer space - visit the Tellurion and turn the crank to see how the earth, moon and sun rotate in different seasons.
Can you create an eclipse? Place stars on our Matariki constellation wall or gaze up at the moons at Te Mārama wall – you can even create your own star to take home!
Pull up a seat in our cosy reading nook for some space-themed bilingual reading time. And don’t forget to shine like a star while taking pictures with our astronaut cut-outs!
Jump on the tram and head to the Discovery Dome at MOTAT Great North Road to check out an actual meteorite, shoot some rockets at the Newtons Rocket table or learn all about kiwis in space with our Faces in Space video clips.
Travel into the world of virtual reality or see how gravity works with the gravity well, you can even build your own satellite within the cleanroom box!
