Birdwoods in Parnell showcases the extraordinary creativity of both African and New Zealand artists. Works by world-renowned Zimbabwean sculptors are displayed in a range of beautiful volcanic stones, each piece carved and polished by hand to reveal ‘the spirit within’. This includes pieces by Jack Stobart, an emerging New Zealand stone sculptor and owner of both Parnell and Arrowtown Birdwoods galleries.
Birdwoods also features recycled metal sculptures, large-scale photographic canvases, some taken by Jack, and a careful selection of smaller creative crafts, including jewellery, basketware, leather, and beadwork.
All have one unifying feature: everything in the gallery has a story, and we have met or know the person who created it. We are committed to trading fairly and respectfully with all our artists. We love things that are authentic, individual, and honest and that have their own story to tell.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
There is on-street parking right outside the gallery premises and across the road, plus there is a tour bus stop also very nearby.
