Destination Management Plans are living documents. They guide the visitor economy operating in these regions to work with communities, providing a way to actively manage the type of tourism they’d like to have.

About Destination Management Plans
Following the launch of the Destination Auckland Management Plan in 2018, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited worked with three regions of Tāmaki Makaurau which were heavily impacted by visitors (regional, national, and international).
These three regions were Aotea Great Barrier Island, Matakana Coast and Waiheke Island. These localised plans focus on planning for sustainable development which includes growth, environmental impacts and ensuring that the impact of the visitor economy both on these communities and their visitors is positive. In developing these plans, a wide range of stakeholder groups including government agencies (local and central), transport agencies, communities, business groups and relevant mana whenua authorities of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland were consulted.
We are working with other areas of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland with an interest in the visitor economy, to support the creation of localised plans.
