Mozart’s wonderful opera is a miraculous blend of low comedy and noble wisdom, and this is encapsulated in its overture. Solemn chords sound gravely – and give way to cheeky high spirits.
His Violin Concerto No.3 is equally buoyant, and it’s a treat to hear it played by Yeyeong Jenny Lin, the 2023 winner of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition.
Dvořák was under the spell of Brahms when composing his Seventh Symphony. It is, in consequence, a very serious-minded piece, but its composer’s love of the Czech countryside and birdsong is never far away.

Auckland Town Hall is opposite Aotea Square on Queen Street. This is along a main bus route and takes about 17-20 minutes to walk from Waitematā Station and the ferry terminal. There is parking available at the Civic carpark which brings you right to the back entrance of the venue.
